Fighting relentlessly for victims of coma after catastrophic accidents
One of the possible conditions related to a traumatic brain injury is coma. After an accident, a victim may experience an inalterable unconsciousness resulting from the trauma to the brain.
At the Glenn Law Firm, we fight hard for victims of accidents, including those who have fallen into a coma. If your loved one has sustained a brain injury, please contact a brain injury lawyer in Dallas/Fort Worth to schedule a free consultation. We aggressively pursue full compensation for our clients' injuries. We also represent clients in wrongful death cases and will pursue loss of companionship, funeral costs and other damages. Call (817) 424-5999 or reach us toll-free at 1-877-809-9699.
Attorney David Glenn is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
A closer look at the "coma scale"
Medical professionals typically use the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) on patients who are unconscious due to brain trauma. The GCS evaluates the degree and severity of a patient's coma.
The coma scale measures three aspects of the mental condition of the patient: eye, verbal and motor responses. In each category, the victim's performance is measured on a scale of 1 to 6. The higher the score, the less severe the coma. A score at or above 13 is considered minor, while a score at or below 8 is considered severe.
In most coma cases, patients come out of the coma after two to four weeks. In some cases, however, a patient may slip into a permanent vegetative state. Someone in this extreme state will lose the ability to think and be aware of surroundings. They may need continual, long-term care.
Sadly, accidents such as motorcycle wrecks or even slip and falls can lead to permanent vegetative states. Families of victims may suffer emotionally and financially as their loved ones remain comatose and require extensive therapy.
