A closer look at RSD
RSD and CRPS symptoms are complex. The condition may progress in three stages:
- Acute (1 to 3 months): This stage is characterized by burning pain, swelling, and increased sensitivity to touch and lasts 1 to 3 months. Sufferers also may notice color and temperature changes in the affected area
- Dystrophic (3 to 6 months): This stage is characterized by constant pain and swelling, muscle stiffness and atrophy (wasting of the muscles). Victims may experience early osteoporosis (bone loss) and notice the area affected feels cool and takes on a blue color.
- Atrophic: This stage is characterized by stiffness in the muscles. The symptoms may spread.
